A grinding problem may be caused by various causes. The trouble shooting instructions shown on below table are only reference. A problem may be caused by many probable factors. The correction instructions given in below table are not the only solution.
PROBLEM PROBABLE CAUSES CORRECTION
Scratch on ground surface Rest plate is too hard Use softer rest plate
Dust or scrap of grinding wheel
  adhered on control plate.
Add soluble cutting fluid into coolant.
Evenly spaced sprial marking Grinding wheel edge is touched. Dress grinding wheel a conical shape.
Poor adjustment for guide plate. Adjust guide plate to a proper pallelism condition.
Dressing speed is too fast Reducing dreeing speed.
  Reduce feed amount.
Diamond dresser is damaged or
  worn out
Change contact position of diamond dresser.
  Replace diamond dresser.
Diamond dredder retainer is
  loosened.
Fasten diamond dresser retainer.
¡@ Poor dreeing Dressing from the edge of grinding wheel. Keep
  at a constant dressing speed.
Evenly or unevenly spaced
  fine lines
External vibration. Isolate vibration source
Deep with irregular marking Grinding wheel is loosened Insert shim in between flange and grinding wheel
Burning marking Crack
  marking
¡@ Mount diamond dresser again.
  Replace diamond dresser.
Use low bonding grinding wheel and reduce feed
  amount.
  Increase coolant flow.
Vibration Lock screws are loosened. Reset it. Have load distributed uniformly
Unbalanced grinding wheel. Make grinding wheel balancing properly by using
  a balancing stand.
Self vibration Workpiece center is too high Reduce workpiece center
Work rest angle is too big Reduce angle
Work rest thickness is too thin. Increase thickness
Work rest mounting is not proper. Tighten screws
Work rest is bent Correct work rest
Grinding load is too heavy Reduce grinding load
Incorrect grinding wheel Consult grinding wheel manufacturer.
Poor circularity of grinding wheel Properly dressing the grinding wheel before and
  after balancing. Lock screws unigormly.
Grinding balancing stand ia
  loosened.
Tighten screws properly
Spindle is loosened. Properly adjust regulating wheel spindle.
Diamound retainer is loosened Tighten the retainer.
  Replace diamond.
External vibration Isolate external vibration.
Inaccurate circularity Workpiece center is too low Increase workpiece center
Work rest angle is too small Increase angle
Excessive hardness of grinding
  wheel
Increase feed speed
Grinding pressure is too high When a sharp diamond dresser is used,
  adjust speed properly.
Regulating wheel is loosened. Tighten the regulating wheel spindle securely
Insufficient coolant in grinding
  hollow workpiece.
Increase coolant to grinding position.
Improper dressing Dressing properly.
Center part of workpiece is
  too big
Improper adjustment of guide plate Adjust parallelism of guide plate.
Reduce tilting of regulating wheel spindle frame.
Increase angle of dressing device for regulating
  wheel.
Center part of workpiece is
  too small.
Improper adjustment of guide plate Adjust parallelism of guide plate.
Reduce tilting of regulating wheel spindle frame.
Reduce angle of dressing device for regulating
  wheel.
Inaccurate squarenedd Serious deformation of workpiece
  before grinding
¡@
Too heavy grinding load on first
  grinding.
¡@
Insuffcient grinding amount. ¡@
